Tim is an Irishman living locally in Aix-les-Bains who played the festival in 2009. He was due to play last year, but for a last minute change, so we have brought him back this year. He is a veritable 21st century troubadour and prolific singer-songwriter, travelling between France, the UK and Ireland and crossing cultures to play his music that switches effortless between folk, Irish, blues and rock. Always interesting; always tasteful, he plays in many guises. At La Roche, make sure to catch him with his trio on the lunchtime stage.

That’s All Folk is almost local to La Roche, coming from the Tarentaise region of the Alps. They are an example of another band that we got to know when the played the Street Festival in 2023. The audience enjoyed the trio’s dynamic and joyous rendition of traditional Bluegrass and covers of modern pop songs, and we decided to bring them onto the lunchtime stage so more people could appreciate our local French Bluegrass talent — especially when they call on festival favourite Dorian Ricaux to join them on mandolin.

Dorian Ricaux (mandolin),

This is kind of a pet project for us. Organised by Ti'Pierre Chalfoun and the Jam Hall Association, it brings kids aged 6 to 16 together from across Europe for two mornings, to learn to play Bluegrass together and communicate through music.

When people reminisce about Bluegrass in France, it is not long before thoughts turn to Toulouse Bluegrass Festival, a legendary French event of the early 1980s. Our president remembers seeing a local Toulouse band there called Anouman. Relatively new to Bluegrass music at the time, he was struck by their modern approach to Bluegrass that he later understood was close to Dawgrass (after David Grisman).
The Portales brothers have not stopped playing together since then and 40 years later they have brought out a new album with their latest formation that includes the warm, mellow sound of the cello.
Their music today expertly explores the Dawg universe with touches from folk, jazz and classical music, and plenty of musicality and talent.

Patrick Portales (guitar, fiddle),
Daniel Portales (mandolin, mandocello,
 Hannah Al-Kharusy (cello).

Jeri is Australian; she has been to La Roche before with The Fountaineers (Scotland) and guested in other bands. She is a wonderful musician and this year she is back with her musical partner Grace, from the USA.
The band formed in the UK and have toured Scotland, England and recently Australia, taking their fresh brand of bluegrass, country classics and original songs to provide audiences with a joyful experience of authentic roots music.
