This is a band that has crept up on us gradually over the months before delighting us in person at the 2024 Street Fest. Jean-Marc and Bernard are French Bluegrass veterans (Bluegrass 43, Sanseverino and Anouman, Mando Duo, New Blue Quitach respectively); Marie is a fully trained multi instrumentalist; one loves Flatt & Scruggs, another The Doors and the third David Grisman — influences they string together in this trio to perform with equal joy Bluegrass standards and Non Bluegrass standards. You should also note that Bernard has a nice swimming pool (I.5 m deep), Marie has a nice bass called Charlie (9.8kg) and Jean-Marc has nice shoes (size 41). This is kind of a pet project for us. Organised by Ti'Pierre Chalfoun and the Jam Hall Association, it brings kids aged 6 to 16 together from across Europe for two mornings, to learn to play Bluegrass together and communicate through music. Take a look and sign your kids up ... C'est un peu notre projet fétiche. Valentine is well known at La Roche from earlier performances with Dear John and her annual visit with the French Bluegrass contingent. But Valentine is also a beautiful voice behind a guitar, somewhere between the open spaces of the American plains and the world of country pop. Using her many influences, she writes and performs her own material in French and has already made her mark on the acoustic music scene with her powerful melodies and emotional generosity. At La Roche she will perform her first album alongside the talented multi-instrumentalist Manu Bertrand — also a great friend of the festival. This is the duo project of Signe Borch (The Tenderhearted) of Denmark and Thierry Schoysman (Rawhide and The Sons of Navarone) of Belgium, where they put close harmony central on the menu. What started in May 2016 as a marathon jam session of traditional bluegrass on guitar, banjo and two vocals, has evolved into an eclectic repertoire with ingredients from various styles and still served with two-part harmony singing. Over the last couple of years the program has filled out to include original compositions for two mandolins, in close harmony of course.
