x
In 17 years the Henhouse Prowlers have forged their own path through music and across the globe, touring worldwide and learning of the musical heritage in faraway places. NEW VALLEY STRING BAND (SWE)
Old time Appalachian music from Scandinavia… x
This Swedish old time trio combines the Appalachian string band tradition with a Nordic sound to create something new, with a mix of party-hits from the Appalachians and emotional arrangements of heartbreaking ballads. The fiddle carries the melodies, the clawhammer banjo and guitar hold a steady pulse while the trio’s harmonies, groove, and bluesy pentatonic scales lay the ground for stories from another time, making a concert with New Valley String Band something special. Adam Bülow - Fiddle Lukas Pettersson Lindberg - Banjo Michael Nyberg - Guitar |
GRASSY STRINGS (IND)
That rarest of musical projects: a Bluegrass act from India … Vertical Divider
x
The two met at junior school and have shared a love of music from all round the world ever sice. They discovered Bluegrass through the Internet and decided this was the music for them. While their repertoire consists mostly of Bluegrass standards, they also compose and sometimes sing Bengali songs. We discovered them when they took part in the California Bluegrass Association Jam-a-thon during lockdown in 2021 and we are happy to give our European audience the opportunity to see them play. They have also worked with Henhouse Prowlers during one their Bluegrass Amabassador tours to India. Souvik Hazra - Guitar, Vocals Subhankar Dhar - Mandolin |

SLO COUNTY STUMBLERS (USA)
High energy Old Time music from California ... Coproduction with Herbe Bleue Festival France Vertical Divider
x
This energetic American Old Time string band out of California’s Central Coast play hard-driving fiddle tunes and spirited songs, heavily influenced by the golden-era string bands of the 1920s and 30s. Their performance is filled with humorous stories and banter and is guaranteed to get feet moving across the dance floor In the short time since the band’s formation in 2018, the Stumblers have performed at a variety of folk and bluegrass festivals, square dances, old-time fiddler’s conventions, as well as hosting the annual Pozo Old-time Music Gathering. Each member contributes a unique role, educating and sharing their love of traditional music and craft. Casy Meikle - Fiddle Stuart Mason - Guitar Daniel Bohlman - Banjo Jerry James - Bass |
MATHIS & BENOIT (DEU/FRA)
A beautiful European hommage to the old blues, country and folk traditions of America … x
These two musicians have a rich musical past, drifting between traditional American music and the modern French pop scene (Manoukian, Milteau, Emily Loizeau). They have appeared on best selling albums, national TV and across major events in the USA. After realising the Doc Watson played just about every song they wanted to learn, they travelled to the USA to learn more about him and his music, and to play their European take on these old songs - sharing the stage one time with Bryan Sutton! And here they are back in Europe bringing the fruits of these experiences to the La Roche stage. Mathis Haug - Guitar, Vocals Benoit Nogaret - Guitar, Vocals |

YONDER BOYS (DEU)
Acid Folk from around the world ! Vertical Divider
x
Acid Folk is the title of their album because of the psychedelic feel their ideas gave to the sound of the album. The trio enjoyed success at the 2022 Street Festival with the depth and variety of influences on display mixing Americana with Bluegrass, pop, Latin and other psychedelic influences. Not surprising for a band made of an American, an Australian and a Chilean all living in Berlin. They have played support to many well known artists and the album has had air time on national radio in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Australia. Jason Serious (USA) - vocals, guitar David Stewart Ingleton (Australia) - vocals, banjo Tomás Peralta (Chile) - vocals, mandolin, banjo, bass |
YOUNG TALENTVertical Divider
THE BOATSWAIN BROTHERS & THE PITCH HILL BOYS (GBR)
As part of Bluegrass in La Roche's drive to promote young Bluegrass talent across Europe ... x
Oscar and Harley started picking Old Time music with their piano playing Grandad in 2018, knowing nothing about the Bluegrass scene in the UK. Later they were joined with experiences from classical music (Alfie came from playing the cello to bass during lockdown), fast and ferocious fiddling and Tony Rice inspired guitar picking. They have slowly been making a name for themselves in the UK and we are thrilled to offer them a slot at Bluegrass in La Roche in the “Young Talent” category, because we believe there is a bright future ahead for these fine young musicians. Oscar Boatswain - Banjo, Vocals Harley Boatswain - Guitar, Vocals, Alfie Clark - Bass Jimmy van Lin - Fiddle Brad Sparks - Guitar, Vocals |
