bands playing on the town hall stage

In 2022, we are launching our new "Town Hall Stage" on the main square of La Roche to host the increasing number of duets and trios who apply to play at the festival.
The concerts will be during the afternoons so members of the public can enjoy the music will doing their shopping of chilling on the various bar terrasses around the square.
We specifically wish to thank our Town Hall Stage partner, AG2R La Mondiale's Foundation for Artistic Vitality, whose generous support has enabled us to launch this new project.

The band met as part of a “Summertime” Gospel Choir where Marta was lead female vocalist. They have been touring as an acoustic trio since 1996 with a great passion for folk and “roots music”, playing gospel, blues, bluegrass and some ethnic italian and mediterranean sounds.
They love to find new ways to play some folk and rock standards, with a great attention to the mix of voices, that they consider their brand and the heritage of their gospel beginnings. Their versatility has allowed them to play special theatre shows dedicated to different Italian and American folk singers (Bob Dylan and Francesco De Gregori’s most recently).

From the flatlands of Belgium come the songs and melodies of American old-time mountain music ...

Hills Of Belgium is a fiddle/banjo duo that revisits the songs and melodies from the roots of American music.
Before their reuse by country and bluegrass, the music of the small farming and mining communities of the Eastern USA had already been making people dance and dream for several generations. They invaded the airwaves at the beginning of the 20th century under the name of Hillbilly Music and then "old-time" music.
The musicians, already immersed in American music, look at their roots on the other side of the Atlantic.
Welcome to 1905, in the Belgian Appalachians !

Compton & Newberry's music has been featured on many famous shows and movies (Transatlantic Sessions, Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?), and rings true to fans of bluegrass, early country, blues, gospel, and string band music.
A typical show features a familiar combination of tunes and songs from the great American songbag, mixed with their own newly composed numbers which are already taking their rightful place in the new tradition.
Together, Compton & Newberry are shining a much-deserved contemporary light on the roots, as they tend to the branches too. They are just the artists to bring fans together for a multi-generational celebration of music we all can love.

Two of Us is a little bit of you, a little bit of us, a moment of coming together to share emotions and music, between radio standards and original folk-style songs. Two of Us is two voices having fun with the sounds and melodies of our times - sometimes with a guitar, sometimes a banjo; maybe driven by a big bass drum or perhaps the spoons; or even a harmonium found in the attic; or any other pocket instrument… And so the melodies become at once mischievous and soulful.
Julie and Marianne played before at La Roche as Abigail's Orchestra a full decade ago !
